Proper Carpet Cleaning Techniques

We are the first to agree that, when it comes to carpet cleaning, we don’t really think about it that much. If the truth were known, most people don’t even “see” the state of their carpets until it’s time to have some important visitors – such as during the holiday season. But maybe that is only single guys who think like that; nevertheless, you should get in the habit of regular carpet maintenance in the area of keeping it clean. Now, don’t think it’s necessary to clean your carpets every single month because it isn’t. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to vacuum thoroughly each week. If you are not in the habit of regular vacuuming, then do yourself and your carpet a favor and get with the program.

Vacuum Regularly

The first step before you do any cleaning of your carpet, such as shampooing, is to vacuum the carpets thoroughly. The kind of carpets you have don’t matter. This is the most basic step in carpet care. When you don’t vacuum thoroughly before you shampoo, your carpet can look worse when you are through than before you started. The process that shampooers follow to clean your carpet are the reason not vacuuming can cause problems.

A portion of the dirt will dissolve when it comes into contact with the water, and part of this dirt will be removed by the shampoo. The dissolved dirt, that you won’t get with your shampooer, will dry deep in the pile of your carpet.

There are a lot of ways to perform carpet cleaning, and some methods are more effective than others. One easy to use method for carpet cleaning uses steam.

Steam Clean

Steam cleaning is a great alternative if you prefer not to use a chemical-based product in your home; however, it’s very important that you follow the directions precisely. Probably the worse thing people do incorrectly after steam cleaning their carpet is not making sure that all of the excess water has been removed. Most everyone knows that steam condenses. What it then does is become water that lodges in your carpet fibers. When you finish cleaning, therefore, you have to make sure this water is removed from your carpet. Mold can grow in your carpet if all of the water isn’t removed. This is bad and will not only cause health problems, but your carpet will probably have to be replaced.

Rug Shampoo

The rug shampoos you buy at the store usually contain, as a matter of course, fragrance and chemicals. It’s not hard to find rug shampoos that are based on natural products and are fragrance-free. When you are using a shampoo for the first time, and it has a fragrance, there’s always the likelihood of someone having an allergic reaction. If there is a reaction, then that could really be a problem because the carpet may need to be cleaned again to remove the fragrance. And so, when you are shopping for a rug shampoo, remember this point and be careful what you buy.

Don’t forget that your consistent cleaning of your carpets could prevent allergic reactions in yourself and others. All you need to do is vacuum and then shampoo your carpeting on a regular basis. Your respiratory system will thank you for forming good procedures for keeping your carpets clean.
